3 to 4 Day
Aialik Bay Mothership Trips

If you're interested in a 3 or 4 day trip, then we'll head over to Aialik Bay!  With three different glaciers, plenty of beautiful bays and many hidden gems, there is certainly plenty to keep us busy! We will travel along the coastline and share the most wonderful highlights of the area along the way, always keeping our eyes out for wildlife. We typically see humpback whales, Steller sea lions, harbor seals and sea otters on the way to Aialik Bay.  Black bears can sometimes be seen walking the beaches or digging on the hillsides.

3 to 4 Day Trip Map

Our days will be a perfect blend of paddling in the area and exploring the beaches and coastline all while traveling in the Mothership from highlight to highlight. We will be sure to spend time paddling up to Aialik Glacier - an actively calving tidewater glacier that's over a mile across at the face! The other days will be spent possibly paddling to Pederson Glacier through a series of tidewater lagoons.  The lower lagoon often provides fantastic wildlife viewing as it is home to many sea otters, harbor seals, black bears, and birds of all sorts, while the upper lagoon puts you right in front of Pederson Glacier. This glacier meanders gracefully down the mountainside, terminating in the frigid waters of the upper lagoon where it calves, leaving a maze of ice you can either paddle through or, depending on conditions and safety considerations, view from a vantage point on shore.  We may also have the opportunity to beach comb and take short hikes on  some of the beautiful beaches in Aialik Bay as well.

Each night we will anchor the boat in a scenic location and prepare a hot, delicious meal. You'll awake the next morning to the aroma of fresh coffee, have breakfast, then set off for another adventure!
